We believe that learning dance should be a fun experience that not only focuses on technique and style, but also creativity and expression.

SDC Classes are different

Our classes do more than just teach one routine for recital, we work on learning proper terminology, technique and expression to create a firm foundation for all future dance. We also believe in creating a studio that has a little fun, creates lasting friendships, and places value on teamwork.

SDC offers many opportunities to perform throughout the community. Some of the events we have participated in include the Decatur Celebration and Christmas Parade, Relay for Life, Decatur IL Moms Group Holiday show, as well as other performances throughout the year.

What we offer

Toddler Tumbling

Children ages 18 months - 30 months - parents welcome.

An introduction to creative dance and basic tumbling in this fun first dance experience. Explore obstacles, learn simple tumbling and stretching all while having fun!

Ballet

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 2 through adult.

The foundation of all dance, ballet teaches posture, grace, and coordination. Children learn the proper technique along with the correct terminology to help lay the groundwork for all future classes.

Tap

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 4 through adult.

Our tap is a fun form of dance characterized by using the sound of one's tap shoes hitting the floor (or other surfaces) as a percussive instrument. We begin with the basic movements and build into more difficult combinations and steps.

Jazz

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 5 through adult. Ballet experience preferred.

Since its origination, jazz has developed in parallel to popular music of the time. Our jazz classes target increasing musicality and technique, rhythm, coordination and flexibility while learning everything from basic movements to advanced combinations and routines.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 7 through adult. Ballet experience preferred.

Rooted in ballet with strong influences of jazz and modern movements, lyrical dance uses dance to express strong emotions such as love, joy and anger. Often music is chosen to serve as inspiration for the dance movements and expressions.

Hip Hop

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 4 through adult.

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This fun class combines a little bit of attitude with fun popular movement and edgy tricks and focuses on developing strength and coordination of movement.

Tumbling/Acro

Separate classes divided by age group and experience level beginning at age 2 through adult. Instructor placement required for intermediate and advanced classes.

Children will learn the foundation of tumbling with bridges, somersaults, cartwheels, and round-offs and progress into more difficult floor acrobatics as they master the basics.

Pointe

Prior ballet experience and instructor placement required for pointe classes.

Pointe refers to the part of classical ballet technique in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet in specially designed shoes.
